Children's Trust

West Coast Villas Sotheby’s International Realty is honoured to support one of the island’s most compelling charities, The Barbados Children’s Trust.  When the organization adopted the symbol of the smile, it wanted to further its mission of helping to raise a smile among the less fortunate and needy children of Barbados. 

Founded in 1997 as a way for the community to give back to its beloved island, the Trust assists in providing a better quality of life for disadvantaged children. It supports both individuals with special needs as well as children’s homes located across the island. These homes provide a supportive environment for children suffering from physical, mental or emotional disabilities, as well as children who are experiencing developmental problems. Additionally, these homes provide safe shelter for children who have been orphaned or who have endured physical abuse or deprivation in their home environment.

Through a number of special projects, the Trust and its supporters have worked to touch and transform the lives of countless Barbadian children.  Specific projects have included the construction of therapeutic facilities at the Children’s Development Centre, St. Michael, as well as a multi-purpose children’s room at Sterling Children’s Home, St Philip, designed for educational and recreational activities.  The Trust has also furnished a half-way house for teenagers to learn to adapt to life outside their previous institutionalised environments.

The Barbados Children’s Trust has been recognised by several organizations for its effective contribution to the wellbeing of the community, including the Friend of Queen Elizabeth Hospital Award in 2003, awarded for the Trust’s work to assist the hospital in delivering quality health care to children, namely its donation of incubators and other necessary equipment.  The Trust has also been recognised internationally and enjoys the sponsorship of several overseas patrons as well as the Barbados Ministry of Education.

The Barbados Children’s Trust remains committed to the fulfillment of its mission of “helping to raise a smile” on the faces of the children of Barbados who are least able.  The Trust welcomes new partners like West Coast Villas Sotheby’s International Realty who assist the Trust in helping to “Raise a Smile.”
